Diffusion of light in turbid media with internal reflections

چکیده

We relate the Kubelka-Munk equations for description of intensity transfer light in turbid media to a one-dimensional diffusion equation, which is obtained by averaging three-dimensional equation over lateral directions. This enables us identify uniquely parameters and derive expressions diffuse reflection transmission coefficients including effect internal reflections. Without reflections we recover formulae these coefficients. show that are proper radiative-transfer problem.

Light diffusion through a turbid parallelepiped.

Solutions of the diffusion approximation to the radiative transport equation are derived for a turbid (rectangular) parallelepiped using the method of image sources and applying extrapolated boundary conditions. The derived solutions are compared with Monte Carlo simulations in the steady-state and time domains. It is found that the diffusion theory is in good agreement with Monte Carlo simulat...

Hybrid model of Monte Carlo simulation and diffusion theory for light reflectance by turbid media.

Light reflectance by semi-infinite turbid media is modeled by a hybrid of Monte Carlo simulation and diffusion theory, which combines the accuracy of Monte Carlo simulation near the source and the speed of diffusion theory distant from the source. For example, when the turbid medium has the following optical properties--absorption coefficient 1 cm-1, scattering coefficient 100 cm-1, anisotropy ...

Propagation of polarized light in turbid media: simulated animation sequences.

A time-resolved Monte Carlo technique was used to simulate the propagation of polarized light in turbid media. Calculated quantities include the reflection Mueller matrices, the transmission Mueller matrices, and the degree of polarization (DOP). The effects of the polarization state of the incident light and of the size of scatterers on the propagation of DOP were studied. Results are shown in...

Time-resolved Diffusion Tomographic Imaging in Highly Scattering Turbid Media

A method for imaging objects in highly scattering turbid media. According to one embodiment of the invention, the method involves using a plurality of intersecting source1 detectors sets and time-resolving equipment to generate a plurality of time-resolved intensity curves for the diffusive component of light emergent from the medium. For each of the curves, the intensities at a plurality of ti...

Light diffusion in a turbid cylinder. I. Homogeneous case.

This paper is the first of two dealing with light diffusion in a turbid cylinder. The diffusion equation was solved for a homogeneous finite cylinder that is illuminated at an arbitrary location. Three solutions were derived for an incident delta -light source in the steady-state, frequency, and time domains, respectively, applying different integral transformations. The performance of these so...
